So, International Education Week is actually held by US department of state that required exchange students such as me that they have sponsored us, to make presentations, events and anything that can introduce our country, mine is Indonesia, to people in America to build understanding and so on.
It was really a big opportunity for me to introduce my country, I dress up with my traditional clothes during my presentation. I'm really glad as well, because I get a good response from them, they were enthusias and curious about my country, although they sometimes such as silly question such as do you have mc Donald in Indonesia or what kind of shoes do you wear? However it's good because they are interesting and want to know more about my country. So then my job would be explain to them what were they perception about Indonesia sometimes wrong. Such as they thought that Indonesia was all forest, come on, we are civillized! :P One thing also that I regret not to answer what I suppose to be, well somebody said: Is that your country? Indonesia? That's beautiful, so why you go here then? Well, I suppose to answer: To show you how beatifull my country is.. I have no idea what I supposed to response at that time actually :P
Moreover some of them even want to be exchange students and go to my country as well! One thing that I like from American people that they are just a really open person and confidence. So even though they didn't really know me, they like to give compliment such as if they like my traditional clothes, my presentation, my clothes that I wore, my pencil case, and everything. So my suggestion is: be proud being Indonesian! I don't know how much am I proud to be Indonesian after I get here. I used to dislike my country very much when I was there. You will think that something is precious is when you already miss or loss them. Yeah that's right :D
There's no place better than you're hometown, if you're surrounded and raised by your community with the rich of culture and faith that cannot be replaced.
